Many families bless their children on Shabbat (and at other meaningful moments). Traditionally, we begin with one line for a son or a daughter, and then continue with the Priestly Blessing.
FOR A SON (BEN)
English:
May God make you like Ephraim and Menasheh.
FOR A DAUGHTER (BAT)
English:
May God make you like Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, and Leah.
PRIESTLY BLESSING (BIRKAT KOHANIM)
English:
May God bless you and keep you.
May God’s light shine upon you, and may God be gracious to you.
May you feel God’s Presence within you always, and may you find peace.
