What is סליחות Selichot? Selichot is the Hebrew word which means “forgiveness.” It is the theme of the High Holy Days as Jews seek forgiveness for past transgressions against our fellow human being and against God. The Selichot Service is a symbolic way to begin the process of תשובה teshuvah, of turning away from our past mistakes in preparation for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. The Selichot Service features readings, prayers and music intended to help us focus on the themes of the High Holy Days: תשובה teshuvah and forgiveness.
